New tech is a space that tends to embody the maxim “How you do one thing is how you do everything.” The big tech firms seem to be engaged in a constant cycle of one upping each other when it comes to their head offices. Everything is brand new, from Google to Apple to Amazon. There is often talk of sleep pods, rock climbing walls, hot desks, company pets and free beer, pizza, massages and yoga.
With this in mind, Remi AI has moved into our new offices, just a stone’s throw from one of the most exciting parts of Sydney: Barangaroo.
New may be an exaggeration... Or a downright lie. Our offices were built in 1820. They’re heritage listed.
At 124 Kent Street, Glovers Cottage is everything you would expect from a cottage built almost 200 years ago. There’s amazing character and charm, an incredible library, absolutely nothing in the way of air conditioning or heating. This winter has already proved particularly trying, but we have developed into a closer team simply from having to share body heat to survive.
One of the ways we amuse ourselves is to keep a tally of how many visitors ask if the place is haunted. At the moment we’re hovering just below 30%. What seems particularly bizarre is the number of people who ask this question in all seriousness. It sets a weird tone to any business meeting if you explore whether the paranormal exists (spoiler: it doesn’t…).
So, while new tech heads one way, we head another. And while there is no doubt benefit of having heating and next gen architecture, we have fallen in love with our little space. And we know you will to, so feel free to swing by.
Just don’t ask if we’ve seen any ghosts.
